1. Overview

PollenRadar ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

2. Data We Collect

Location data: We process your GPS coordinates locally on your device to calculate pollen exposure scores. Location data is sent to our server only when you actively request an exposure calculation. We do not store your location history on our servers unless you save a monitored location.

Community tree contributions: Tree observations you submit (species, GPS coordinates, optional photo) are stored publicly in our community database. By contributing, you acknowledge this data will be visible to other users.

Allergy diary entries: Symptom logs are stored locally on your device. If you subscribe to Pro or Premium, diary data may be synced to our server for cross-device access.

Account data: Free-tier users do not need an account. Pro/Premium subscribers provide an email address for subscription management via Stripe. We store: email, subscription tier, and Stripe customer ID.

Device information: We assign an anonymous device ID on first launch for rate limiting and contribution tracking. This ID cannot be used to identify you personally.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not track your movement or location history
We do not collect contacts, photos (except tree photos you explicitly submit), or messages
We do not build advertising profiles
We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to provide app functionality:

Stripe — Payment processing for Pro/Premium subscriptions. Stripe processes your payment data under their own privacy policy.
Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) — Pollen forecast data for Germany
Open-Meteo — Weather data
OpenStreetMap / Overpass API — Tree location data
PlantNet — AI plant identification from photos
Google Gemini — Satellite imagery analysis for tree detection

5. Data Storage & Security

Server data is stored on secured servers within the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe and never touches our servers.

Local device data is stored in your browser's localStorage or the app's sandbox and is not accessible to other apps.

6. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

Access — Request a copy of your personal data
Rectification — Correct inaccurate data
Erasure — Request deletion of your personal data
Portability — Receive your data in a machine-readable format
Objection — Object to processing of your data
Withdrawal of consent — Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data Retention

Community tree contributions: Retained indefinitely as public data
Subscription data: Retained while subscription is active + 1 year for tax/accounting
Alert logs: Retained for 90 days
Device IDs: Deleted after 2 years of inactivity

8. Children's Privacy

PollenRadar does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the app or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
